One of the natural resting positions of humans is the deep squat. It is a movement that displays a certain level of function around the feet and pelvis and is a movement we should aim to retain for our entire lives. Unfortunately, after a childhood of easy squatting, most Westerners get stuck on a chair for most of the rest of their lives and they lose the ability to work their hips and feet through the movement. Luckily though, it can be regained!
In this 50 minute class, you will learn the fundamental components of a squat. Ellie breaks down each of part of the whole movement into more manageable chunks as you will explore dorsiflexion of the ankle, flexion of the knee and hip, hip abduction and external rotation and pelvic extension.
There is very little actual squatting (just a test at beginning and end) and each of the exercises within the routine will be accessible to most bodies.
This is a live recording of my ‘Learn to Squat’ Online Posture Class from 11/07/20. You will need a Yoga Block (or similar), a Yoga Strap (or similar), a chunk of wall and two rolled up towels/blankets.
Please listen to your body when attempting these exercises – this is not catered towards your body and some things may not be suitable.
